A New Theory of Societal Evolution
Drawing on a lifetime of study and experience, Boulding develops a general theory of human social evolution by examining the patterns humans use to understand the universe and changes in these patterns over time. The most important of these patterns are those that deal with "know-how" and the transmission of "know-how" between generations via biogenetic processes and cultural processes which produce organizations and physical artifacts. Boulding contends that human social evolution can be understood as the evolution of human artifacts.
